FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. What is the best way to apply the Beeswax Filler Sticks for a professional result?
A: For the most durable repair, we recommend melting the wax. The sticks are quite hard, especially in cooler weather. Use a tool like a soldering iron to melt the beeswax directly into the crack or hole. Slightly overfill the area. Once it’s hard, remove the excess wax with a plastic scraper. For a flawless finish, gently clean the surface with ‘0000’ Superfine steel wool and a good quality wax polish.
2. What type of damage are these sticks best for?
A: They are specifically designed for filling deeper damage like cracks, splits, deep gouges, and nail holes. We don’t recommend them for shallow scratches or dents on large flat surfaces like tabletops, as the filler can sometimes highlight this type of damage.
3. How do I choose the right colour for my furniture?
A: We offer a range of 12 different wood-tone colours to get a close match. For the best result, choose a colour that is slightly darker than the timber you’re repairing, as this tends to blend in more effectively with the natural grain.
4. Will the repaired area be durable? Will it shrink or rub off?
A: Yes, the repair is extremely durable! Our unique pure beeswax formula ensures the filler will not shrink, dry out, discolour, or rub off on clothing once it has been applied correctly using the melting method.
5. Can I paint, stain, or apply lacquer over the beeswax filler?
A: No. Because our sticks are made of pure beeswax, top coats like paint, stain, or lacquer will not adhere to the repaired surface. The wax repair is designed to be the final finish.
6. How is this product different from a wood putty or epoxy filler?
A: Our Beeswax Filler Sticks offer an instant, traditional repair that becomes part of the wood’s finish. Unlike putties or epoxies, there’s no mixing or long curing times, and the pure beeswax provides a more natural look that can be seamlessly blended with a final wax polish.
7. How durable is the repair? Can it be used on high-use surfaces?
A: Absolutely. Our beeswax sticks create a very hard and durable repair once set. When applied by melting them in, the repair provides a long-lasting fix suitable for most wooden furniture items.
8. Are your filler sticks a better value than others on the market?
A: Yes! Our Beeswax Filler Sticks are significantly larger than most competitor products, giving you more product for your money and allowing you to complete more repairs with a single stick.
9. What kind of surfaces can I use these sticks on?
A: They work wonderfully on all kinds of timber and wood veneer. They’re a favourite among furniture restorers, upcyclers, and antique specialists for everything from antique cabinets to modern tables.
