Frequently Asked Questions Furniture Wax Paste Range
What makes Aussie Furniture Care Furniture Wax different from traditional beeswax polishes?
Unlike older beeswax polishes that often include petrochemical solvents like toluene, gum turpentine, or silicones, this wax is crafted from pure Australian beeswax and natural tree oils. This means it provides protection and shine without sticky buildup, harmful residues, or unpleasant odours.
What types of furniture is this wax suitable for?
The wax is designed for:
-
Solid timber furniture (both modern and antique)
-
Veneered pieces such as sideboards, tables, or cabinets
-
Raw wood surfaces (note: raw timber may darken slightly when treated)
It is not suitable for painted, plastic-laminate, or high-gloss polyurethane finishes.
How often should I apply the wax?
For best results, apply every 3–6 months depending on the level of use and exposure.
-
High-traffic furniture (dining tables, coffee tables): every 3 months
-
Low-use furniture (sideboards, decorative pieces): every 6 months
In between wax applications, use AFC Quick Polish for maintenance.
Besides colour differences. What are the differences between Clear, Brown and Black wax?
-
Clear Wax: Safe for all furniture colours. Enhances natural beauty without altering colour.
-
Brown Wax: Adds warmth and depth to brown timbers, while filling fine cracks and splits.
-
Black Wax: Richly pigmented, perfect for dark brown or black furniture, ideal for Asian imports and distressed pieces. Not recommended for light woods.
Will the wax change the colour of my furniture?
-
Clear Wax: Will not change the colour, only enhance the grain and sheen.
-
Brown Wax: Enriches the tone of brown woods and blends small imperfections.
-
Black Wax: Deepens and darkens existing dark timber, covering scratches.
If you’re unsure, test on an inconspicuous area first.
How do I apply the furniture wax properly?
-
Apply a small amount to a clean, lint-free cotton cloth.
- When using the brown or black wax for filling fine splits put extra wax on the cloth and push it into the split and wipe off excess.
-
Rub in a circular motion, finishing along the grain.
-
Allow to dry until it squeaks when rubbed with your fingertips.
-
Buff with a second soft cloth along the grain.
-
For the best finish, use two thin coats instead of one thick coat.
Can this wax be used on antique furniture?
Yes. The formula is gentle, silicone-free, and nourishing, making it safe for antique furniture. It enhances aged timbers and helps restore richness to old finishes. For museum-quality antiques, seek professional guidance before applying.
Is the wax safe to use around children and pets?
Yes. The formula is non-toxic and eco-friendly, making it safe to use in family households. It contains no petrochemical by-products, making it a healthier choice compared to many commercial polishes.
How long does one application of the furniture wax last?
A single application can last several months, depending on use and cleaning frequency. With the recommended maintenance schedule, your furniture will stay protected and polished throughout the year.
Can the furniture wax fill scratches or cracks?
-
Brown and Black furniture waxes are designed to fill fine splits and surface imperfections while blending colour.
-
Clear furniture wax is mainly protective and won’t disguise deeper damage.
For deeper chips or gouges, consider pairing with the Aussie Furniture Care First Aid & Touch Up Kit.
Does the Aussie Furniture Care Wax leave a greasy or sticky finish?
No. This is a no-buildup formula. It leaves a smooth, clean, smear-free finish with a natural sheen that enhances the wood’s grain.
Can beeswax polish be used on outdoor wood furniture?
No. This wax is formulated for indoor timber and veneer furniture. Outdoor furniture requires specialised protection products.

Easy to apply and polishes up the wood beautifully and no sticky residue. Great product!
I love this polish. I have tried lots of other furniture polish for our antique fruitwood table & ghis is yhe greT. Easy to apply & polishes quickly to lovely shine
My furniture is very dark brown, so I chose the black on the suppliers recommendation. Easy to use. It worked a treat on my newer furniture although it didn’t appear to do much for the many scratches on my older coffee table. I wasn’t expecting miracles on the coffee table but I have only given it one go, so will continue to work on it.
