How to clean laminate floors

It’s important to know how to clean laminate flooring to avoid damage. Laminate flooring is easy to clean & maintain as long as you follow this simple care regime and these simple instructions:

Start with vacuuming or dust mopping to remove loose dirt. and grit from the surface this will also reduce abrasion.

Next lightly damp mop the floor using a neutral PH floor cleaner to remove soiling. Always spray the cleaner lightly ahead of the area you a mopping as this will keep moisture to a minimum. Allow to dry.

Never overwet the surface with water or cleaning products as the laminate can absorb the water and cause warping and other problems.

Other tips that will keep your laminate floor in good order:

  • Always mop up and dry liquid spills immediately
  • When you’re cleaning laminate flooring, never use harsh or abrasive cleaners, steel wool, scouring powder, or soap–based detergents.
  • Make sure you never use waxes or polishes on laminate flooring.
  • In the case of candle wax or chewing gum sticking to the floor, careful and gentle scraping with a plastic implement is the best way out then remove left over residue with neutral Ph floor cleaner or nail polish remover on a cloth if necessary. With nail polish always test first a small area first to make sure there are no adverse reactions.
  • Place doormats at the entrances of the house and rooms.
  • Fit good quality floor protectors to your furniture especially if it is being moved along the floor regularly (Chairs & Barstools)

Laminate floors do not require much care, because they are coated in a special polymer that protects the wood sheets underneath but overwetting is the killer!
